We hired Subito Strings to do arrival cocktails, ceremony music and cocktail hour music. We selected our favorite pop songs and they did an amazing job. We also commissioned them to do two new pieces to perform with friends of ours that sing, which made for an even more special day.

The Subito Strings Difference

Subito Strings wedding and event musicians are in a class of their own, performing exclusive arrangements that can’t be heard by any other string quartet.

We are graduates of the top Music Conservatories in the country. Our virtuoso artists have invested thousands of hours perfecting their craft and they are passionate about performing together.

Many of our musicians have earned their degrees from The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, Mannes School of Music, and The Colburn School in Los Angeles. They appear regularly with the LA Phil, The Pacific Symphony of Orange County, The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, and the Santa Barbara Symphony.

Established in 2005, our string musicians have performed at thousands of events and wedding ceremonies across Los Angeles, the SF Bay area, and throughout California, earning a reputation of excellence, professionalism, and thoughtful planning for the modern bride. We believe in providing impeccable service to each and every one of our clients.

At Subito Strings, we offer a level of artistry that no other group can match. Our exclusive arrangements are crafted with passion and precision, performed by musicians who have studied at the nation’s top music conservatories like Juilliard, Eastman, and Colburn. Unlike other groups, whose performances may feel uninspired or rely on overplayed, cheesy music selections, we deliver a unique and elevated experience that you won’t find elsewhere. Don’t trust just anyone with your most special moments—choose Subito Strings for a performance that is truly exceptional and memorable.

Wedding Ceremony Musicians

PRELUDE MUSIC

Set the Right Mood

As your wedding starts, your guests hear the rich sonorities of our string quartet and begin to take their seats at the ceremony area.

Many clients like to have this portion of their music lean on the more traditional side, with classical selections that evoke a distinguished elegance.

Others like to boldly present our dynamic pop arrangements, bursting right out of the gate with a festive celebration.

CEREMONY MUSIC

Bridal Entrance Music: Walk Down the Aisle with the perfect music

Envision hearing the sensitive opening notes to the “Flower Duet” or our arrangement of “She,” by Elvis Costello.

Hear the reverent notes of Bach’s classic “Air on the G String” during your candle lighting ceremony.

EXIT MUSIC & POSTLUDE

It’s time to Celebrate! Wedding Recessional Songs are perhaps the most memorable part of the ceremony.

As the ceremony reaches it’s momentous conclusion, we burst into playing the famous “Wedding March”: by Mendelssohn or the cinematic “All You Need Is Love” by The Beatles.

We continue our performance with Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and “Marry You” by Bruno Mars, as your guests are exiting the ceremony area to continue the celebration at your cocktail hour.

Cocktail Hour Music

60 MINUTES TO FOLLOW YOUR CEREMONY

Let loose and express your musical taste. Have us perform your favorite songs as your guests celebrate the occasion. Create your custom playlist, or have Subito Strings curate the music for you.

Dinner & Reception Music

Craft the perfect vibe for your guests. After cocktail hour, the energy level should lower just a bit, allowing your guests to have a conversation over the light, elegant music. As the dinner transitions to dancing, ask your string quartet to increase the tempo and vibrance to get your guests energized.

What instruments make up a string quartet?

A string quartet is comprised of four instruments: two violins, a viola and a cello. The most important parts of a string quartet are the 1st violin and the accompanying bassline in the cello. The two inner parts are the 2nd violin and viola, which add rich harmony and volume to the group.

When will the musicians arrive? Our musicians will arrive 30 minutes to 1 hour before the event’s start time to set up and coordinate with your planner or venue contact.

What will the musicians wear? Our musicians typically wear concert black attire, providing a formal, polished look that lets the music take center stage.

Which string Group do I need for my wedding Ceremony?

One of the most often asked questions we hear is, “which ensemble should I book?”

Should I book a string quartet or a quintet for my wedding music? Would a violin and cello duo be loud enough for my guest size?

Subito Strings offers many different ensembles, with everything from a solo violinist, to our most popular group, the string quartet, a string quintet, and even a full string orchestra.

How do you know what the best choice for your wedding ceremony music is?

Believe it or not, you can easily identify your best option with just a few considerations:

Will we perform at your ceremony only or for your ceremony and cocktail hour?

If you’re hiring us for wedding ceremony music only:

Unless the wedding is taking place in a noisy or windy park, any soloist or ensemble will carry beautifully.

In skilled hands, a solo violin or solo cello can project with surprising power. That said, a soloist by nature is limited to performing the melody, with little in the way of the supporting harmonies.

Upgrading to a Violin and Cello Duo gives a balance of treble and bass adds a great deal of fullness to the sound.

Adding a second violinist to the mix to form a string trio (2 Violins and Cello) yields yet more musical nuance, allowing for countermelodies and rich sonorities to shine through.

String Quartet adds the Viola to the String Trio, and it is our most popular ensemble for good reason. The String Quartet is an iconic ensemble in music history and it has been the favorite vehicle of composers writing for chamber ensembles for many centuries. The Viola is a special instrument, with its own characteristic texture and tone. A complete String Quartet offers a level of finesse that is greater than the sum of its parts, allowing for a huge dynamic range, sumptuous harmonies, tonal variety, and melodic interest.

The melody in a String Quartet can be intricately interweaved and presented in unexpected ways. For example, the resonant baritone voice of the Viola can unexpectedly take the melody front and center, or you might hear the Cello singing in its expressive upper register while the rest of the group provides the bass to support it.

Subito Strings is one of the few groups to offer larger ensembles. Adding a Double Bass (Upright Contrabass) to the standard quartet reinforces the low end and brings a warmth and presence to the String Quintet (2 Violins, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass) that is seldom heard outside of the concert hall.

Some of our clients voice concerns about bringing the the fuller-sounding String Quintet or String Quartet to their intimate wedding, but the wonderful thing about hiring highly trained string players for your wedding is that the musicians are able to dial in their performance to precisely the right volume level, even as a larger group.

If you’re hiring us for wedding ceremony music and cocktail hour music:

Cocktail hour is when the party really gets started! To be sure that our music is heard well with the celebrating voices, you’ll want to consider guest size and room acoustics.

Spend some time in the space you’ll be having us perform, and see how boomy the sound is. If you’re hearing your voice echo and bounce off the walls, your guests’ voices will as well, creating a loud din. In these kinds of rooms, it’s best to choose an ensemble with the power and low end bass to cut through.

Every space is different but in general, we recommend a String Quartet for a guest count of 50 - 200, and a String Quintet or String Orchestra for a guest count of over 200.

What are the instruments in a string quartet?

The String Quartet has two violins, one viola, and one cello.

What are the instruments in a string quintet?

The String Quintet has two violins, one viola, one cello, and one upright bass.

How do they sound? Let’s take a listen:

“Hired a solo violinist… The musician was prompt, professional and played the most beautiful music that filled city hall. I am extremely happy with this business and would recommend them to anyone.”

What People Are Saying…

We had this lovely string quartet play at our cocktail soirée at a winery in Temecula and they were fantastic! The music was beautiful and the musicians were very kind. They made each top hit sound like a classical piece and it was hard not to sing along to the music. They are amazing to watch and my guests enjoyed them so much. This group has so much talent!

I would recommend them for any party/event and would hire them again in the future!

I had Subito Strings put together a string quartet for my wedding. We had 3 songs in mind for them to play (obscure songs they didn’t have in their repertoire). They composed the strings beautifully. They made our wedding ceremony exactly what I had envisioned. I also got to choose an hour’s worth of songs they played for guest arrivals and post-ceremony. This library was way better than I had ever expected. I even had a friend ask me for a playlist of what they had performed because he loved it so much (Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Arcade Fire and more). I’m so impressed and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a string quartet for their event!

If you’re looking for a string quartet for your special event in Southern California, Subito Strings should be at the top of your list. I started looking for wedding musicians months before I hired any of my vendors. It was important to my husband and I that we had specific songs played at our intimate ceremony and dinner reception. The hiring process was seamless: I spoke with Rebecca and secured the date and time. I was given a list of songs to choose from and there was a wide enough selection to choose our dream songs, from classical for the Processional to sentimental Top 40 songs during dinner, and everything in-between.

Our musicians played from the time before guests arrived until after dinner. All of my guests commented on the beautiful music and how nice it was to see a string quartet at an intimate wedding. None of my guests mentioned when the musicians left the event—even though they were just a few feet away, no one heard them leave. Subito Strings are front and center, playing beautifully when you need them to, but they are also the consummate professionals that conducted themselves gracefully, even in front of a small audience of 30. These musicians are the best of the best —just look at their resumes—and yet they allowed our wedding event to take center stage.
